MILITARY FUNERALS AND MEMORIALS

For deceased Veterans, Serving Members of the Armed Forces, Royal Canadian Legion, RCMP, Corrections Officers, Police Officers and Firemen, there are special protocols. I am well versed in the Procedures and Customs of Canada, The UK and Comonwealth and the United States, such as unique Regimental laments and marches, working in coordination with military drill, firing parties and buglers.  Also  I have a limited number of regimental and branch flags that attach to my Funeral Banner, to further honour tha deceased's service.

 FUNERALS and MEMORIALS

FUNERALS and MEMORIALS
A Piper fills a special place at a funeral or memorial. Be it greeting the deceased at the door of the church, playing them to the gravesite, or ending the service with a haunting lament echoing in the distance, the sound of the pipes assists in the grieving process.   I am available on short notice, and charge $100.00 Cdn . In more than twenty years of piping, I have never been late nor have I missed a performance. Nor have I attended a service with less than a very high standard of dress and deportment. (Sadly not all  pipers can honestly claim this)

SOME OF THE WAYS THAT I CAN PARTICIPATE IN A FUNERAL ARE:

AT THE FUNERAL HOME

  • Standing post at the entrance to the Funeral Home greeting the mourners as they arrive;
  • Piping the Deceased from the Reposing Room to the to the Funeral Home Chapel;
  • Playing a lament near the end of the service;
  • Piping the deceased from the chapel to the Hearse, prior to departing for interment or cremation and in the case of off site cremation, escort the hearse from the Funeral home property.

AT THE CHURCH

  • Standing post at the church door while the mourners are arriving;
  • Playing as the Casket is being drawn from the Hearse and placed on the catafalque.
  • Continue playing until the Deceased is greeted by the Padre (at the door in the case of Roman Catholic services, right to the alter in other cases)
  • Playing a selection of tunes during parts of the service;
  • Playing a lament at the end of the service;
  • Piping the Casket out of the church to the Hearse; prior to departing for interment or cremation and in the case of off site cremation, escort the hearse from the church property.

AT THE INTERNMENT

  • Greeting the Cortege at the cemetery and piping them too the grave site;
  • Piping the Deceased from the Hearse to the gravesite;
  • Rendering military honours if required;
  • Playing lament at the end of the graveside service, fading off into the distance;
  • Standing Post at the head of the grave until the mourners have departed;
